The Foundation of a Great Property
Why Fencing Is One of the Best Investments You Can Make
A quality fence does far more than mark a boundary.
It shapes how you live in, protect, and present your property - delivering security, privacy, and lasting value for decades to come.
Security & Privacy
A well-built fence forms a physical barrier that deters unauthorized entry, keeps children and pets safely within your property, and blocks sightlines so you can enjoy your outdoor space without intrusion.
Property Value & Curb Appeal
A beautifully designed fence complements your home's architecture and landscaping, enhancing curb appeal and potentially increasing your property's market value - a tangible return on investment.
Safety & Liability
For properties with pools or other hazards, fencing is often a legal requirement. Proper enclosures prevent accidents and reduce liability exposure for homeowners and businesses alike.
Wildfire Defense
As California's fire seasons intensify, non-combustible fencing materials - such as Class A fire-rated aluminum or ornamental iron - create critical defensible space and prevent fire from spreading across your property.

California Wildfire Season
Protect Your Property with Class A Fire-Rated Fencing
As California's wildfire seasons grow longer and more intense, your fence is the first line of defense between your home and an advancing fire. Wood and vinyl fences can ignite from radiant heat or embers - accelerating fire spread directly toward your home. C&J Fencing installs non-combustible alternatives that hold the line.
A standard wood fence can ignite at approximately 500°F and become a fire highway directly to your home.
Cal Fire and IBHS both recommend non-combustible fencing materials in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zones - which include much of Contra Costa and Alameda Counties.
Wood & Vinyl Fencing
- Ignites at ~500°F from radiant heat or embers
- Burns and spreads fire toward the structure
- Vinyl melts and releases toxic fumes
- Creates a continuous fuel path to your home
Non-Combustible Fencing
- Will not ignite, burn, or contribute to fire spread
- Creates a defensible barrier around your property
- Maintains structural integrity under extreme heat
- Complies with WUI building codes and Cal Fire guidelines

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before starting your fencing project.
Will my HOA need to approve my fence?
If your property is governed by a Homeowners Association, you will typically need to submit a design approval request before installation. Most HOAs specify allowable materials, colors, heights, and styles. We can provide you with detailed specifications, material samples, and design drawings to support your HOA submission.
How long does a typical fence installation take?
Most residential fence projects are completed within one to three days, depending on the length, material, and site conditions. Larger commercial projects or those requiring custom fabrication may take longer. We will provide a clear timeline during your estimate so you know exactly what to expect.
What's the difference between FSC-Certified and standard lumber?
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification guarantees that the wood was harvested from responsibly managed forests that meet strict environmental and social standards. FSC-certified redwood is also typically denser and more durable than non-certified alternatives, meaning your fence will last longer and require less maintenance over time.
How do I maintain my wood fence to maximize its lifespan?
We recommend cleaning your wood fence annually with a mild detergent and water, and applying a quality sealant or stain every two to three years to protect against moisture, UV damage, and pests. Inspect posts and rails each spring for signs of rot or insect damage. Properly maintained FSC-certified redwood fences can last 20 years or more.
Can C&J Fencing replace just a section of my existing fence?
Yes. We offer partial fence replacement and repair services. During the estimate, we will assess the condition of your existing fence and recommend whether a section repair or full replacement is the more cost-effective long-term solution for your property.
Do you install automatic gates?
Yes. C&J Fencing designs and installs both manual and automatic gate systems, including swing gates, sliding gates, and access control integration. Automatic gate operators can be added to new or existing fence installations and are available in a range of styles to complement any fencing material.
Is SleekFence resally fire-rated? How does it compare to wood?
Yes. SleekFence™ aluminum panels carry an ASTM E84 Class A fire rating - the highest classification available. The aluminum alloy has a melting point of 1,220°F, compared to wood which can ignite at approximately 500°F from radiant heat or ember contact. In Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zones, non-combustible fencing like SleekFence™ is strongly recommended by Cal Fire and insurance carriers.
